Correct Attire for the Mac OS 10.4 Launch

Friday, April 29th, 2005

I find something amusing about the die-hard aspects of any culture, and Apple’s is certainly one of the most entertaining (and ripe for parody). I wonder how many people will think I’m wearing “I’m here for the cult meeting” in jest and how many will think I’m dead serious.
Happy new OS day everybody.

David Pogue Sings (and Scares Me)

Thursday, April 28th, 2005

David Pogue, the best known of the New York Times technology writers and Missing Manual author, is pretty enjoyable to read, but did you know he also sings? In Pogue’s own words

Every now and then, at talks and on TV, I’ll sing a take-off of a popular song….with new words about the computer [...]

Safari Passes the Acid2 Test!

Wednesday, April 27th, 2005

In an incredibly short amount of time, Dave Hyatt has simultaneously improved Safari to pass the Web Standard’s Acid2 test and shown that web standards not only matter, but that support can be improved in short order. Very impressive and certainly fun to watch. I hope this puppy gets rolled out to all [...]

Pop-up Flash Fake Browser Mini Interface

Wednesday, April 27th, 2005

I went to the Mini Cooper site to see if they had a Hybrid vehicle and was met with the following site requirements.

So, if you’re going to the Mini Cooper site make sure you change your resolution to 1024 x 768, because it’s required. Once you do that, the pop-up Flash interface presents you [...]

Trade Your Time on Timebucks

Tuesday, April 26th, 2005

I ran into Timebucks the other day, an online exchange where the currency is not money, but what money ultimately represents: time. It’s a great idea and the implementation looks functional. Trade whatever skill you have for massage, tutoring, carpentry work, painting, gardening, energy work, big fat placebo, dance lessons or anything else [...]

The Why and How of Removing nofollow From Wordpress 1.5

Monday, April 25th, 2005

I have effective spam filters on my email, but it doesn’t discourage spammers in any way. Just the same, the nofollow attribute will do nothing to stop comment spammers from wasting your time. Using nofollow is destructive to the legitimate value of those people who leave links in their comments and I won’t [...]

Are Mac OS 10.4’s iCal and Address Book Hipster PDA Compatible?

Friday, April 22nd, 2005

While looking at Apple’s Mac OS 10.4 site, I found the following on the bottom of the Address Book page leading me to wonder if both Address Book.app and iCal are going to have something special for paper-based PDAs.

Going out of town or away from your Mac? Address Book has you covered. Now you can [...]

Safari 1.3 Gallery Problem

Thursday, April 21st, 2005

Safari 1.3 seems to be tripping up on my photo galleries, which are nothing more than images separated by break tags with some styling for spacing. Take a look at my Taipei at Night Gallery with Safari 1.3 to see what I mean. About halfway down the gallery you’ll see images that are [...]

Pare Umbrella’s Spring Summer Collection

Wednesday, April 20th, 2005

I’m a sucker for good aesthetics in product design, especially in categories where your choices are generally bland and blander (I’m looking at you Samsonite), so when I bumped into Pare Umbrella’s new collection the other day at KOBO at Higo in the International District, I was quite impressed. I had heard new designs [...]
