Nintendo’s Miyamoto Hints at Videogames that Don’t Use the Television

Friday, December 30th, 2005

There’s an interview with Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Mario, Zelda and other pioneering works, over at Business Week. This particular quote caught my eye.

Q: In the future, what do you think video games will be like?
A: It’s convenient to make games that are played on TVs. But I always wanted to have a [...]

Wordpress 2.0 is Out

Thursday, December 29th, 2005

Notable improvements:

a new customizable UI for writing your posts
a fantastic new post preview
easy file uploading
new import section for migrating content from other blogs

My only criticism at this point is that the admin tool seems to have gotten unnecessarily chunky.
I’ve successfully upgraded two installs, but a third didn’t go so well for reasons not entirely known [...]

Obvious Diversion Album of the Year:
Year of Meteors by Laura Veirs

Wednesday, December 28th, 2005

Once a year I violate my “no music reviews” policy and trot out my annual favorite for you to applaud, explore or ignore. Choose wisely.
This year’s choice? Year of Meteors by Laura Veirs. After ripping this CD into iTunes, it has been played constantly to the point of annoying anyone within my [...]

The Xbox Was a $4 Billion Charity
Will The Xbox 360 Be Any Different?

Thursday, December 22nd, 2005

Looking at the videogame industry, and Microsoft’s moves in particular, it’s easy to forget that the goal of this business, any business, is to actually make money.
Everyone feels that the Xbox was a success. They took second place in the United States from Nintendo (although made nearly zero impact on the Japanese market). [...]

The trailer just came out for Cthulhu the movie and it looks damn good. Check it out.

Is Blueray Really the Last Physical Format?

Monday, December 19th, 2005

There’s been talk recently that the next format, whether it be Blueray or HD-DVD (it’ll be Blueray), will be the last physical format. In the five years or more that Blueray will displace the current DVD standard, it’s believed that bandwidth will be everywhere and plentiful and, as a result, movies and data will [...]

The Ricky Gervais Podcast

Sunday, December 18th, 2005

I listen to probably around twenty podcasts, but my absolute favorite at this point has to be The Ricky Gervais Podcast. While listening to Episode 1, I found myself laughing out loud while riding the bus to work (yep, I was that crazy guy who was laughing on the bus). Episode 2 is [...]

An Update on the Mayoral Auction

Friday, December 16th, 2005

I seriously apologize for disappearing this week. There was a bit of a medical emergency and between that and all the work I’ve been taking on just threw everything into a heads-down mode with few pockets of relaxation.
As a result, I haven’t been paying attention to the Lunch with The Mayor auction. The [...]

Testing out Free Rolling Wifi on the Bus

Friday, December 9th, 2005

Seattle Metro and Sound Transit are testing out wifi on some of their buses and I’ve been fortunate to be on four such buses this week. I flipped open my Gameboy DS and tried to get online to play a little Mario Kart against my friend Ivan Ho in NYC. (Seriously, you didn’t [...]

Should I Buy Lunch With the Mayor?
The Stranger Thinks So…

Thursday, December 8th, 2005

The Stranger released this year’s Strangercrombie catalog, a kick-ass fundraiser with what may be some of the best gifts I’ve ever seen and raises some serious money for Northwest Harvest. Among this year’s auctions are Karaoke with Senator Maria Cantwell (I would sooo take her to The Crescent), a Pampered Pirate Package and (getting [...]
