The Most Beautiful Game at E3: Crysis

This game made others feel like they were decorated with cheap wallpaper. Near the end of day 1, I stumbled across Crysis, a PC game, and it ruined me visually for every other game at the show. It’s a first-person shooter, of which there was no shortage, but in this one the environments felt alive. You could see the wind blowing through the trees and the breaking of branches by bullets. You left footprints in the dirt. When someone darted across the screen, they looked far too real.

Here’s a video demo of Crysis. Keep in mind that this was taken with my little pocket camera and then compressed quite a bit, so it doesn’t do it justice, but it’ll have to do for now.

There’s no question that they must have been using a pretty expensive machine to make this run, but it’s exactly the reason PC gamers don’t turn to consoles. This game has a quality we probably won’t even see on the PS3 when development for it is mature. (Nothing shown for PS3 at the show even got close to Crysis.)

There isn’t much information online about this title yet, but it’s going to be the game to beat, at least in the graphics department.
