That’s Mr. Deep Throat to You

It’s a sad day of reconciliation for delusional psychopaths in dimly lit basements everywhere who had convinced themselves that they were Deep Throat. Deep Throat, the much speculated character who helped pull tear down the Nixon presidency, was in fact the W. Mark Felt, #2 FBI man at the time. He should get a coffee mug that says “Greatest Whistleblower Ever!” Here is a prime example of the importance of anonymous speech and the right for journalists to protect their sources.
It’s strange that all of these media outlets credited the Washington Post with getting the scoop when it was Vanity Fair that actually did so. I saw NBC and the New York Times do exactly that. I can’t help but think the larger media outlets don’t like to credit a magazine such as Vanity Fair for beating them to one hell of a story.
One last note: it’s worth mentioning that Woodward and Bernstein used numerous sources, not just Deep Throat, and plenty of sweat to make their stories appear on the page. No one, including Deep Throat or the Washington Post, brought down Nixon. Nixon did that just fine with his disturbing and un-American abuse of power.
