I just bought one of these (Anvil Modern Paperie) notebooks at a local (Phila, PA) store's going out of business - OMG! I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT 20 if I could have opened it (shrink-wrapped, & they couldn't tell me if it was lined or not) - I LOVE this notebook: unlined is the best, good quality spiral binding so you can lay the thing flat open or 1-sided, subtle little grided dots so my sketchy scribbles don't meander more than I want, but unlined so I can draw amongst my writing. And I think I paid about $2.50. But there you go. $10 is not gonna happen very often.

Hey, thanks for linking to our site. We loved Oh Boy products. The designs were great and obviously resonated with their users. I have my own stash that i'm saving for something REALLY special--my daughter's wedding perhaps?

One of your commenters noted that another site has them for less than we do. I'll be looking into that very soon. In the meantime we have a good stock position and ours are currently on sale.

I was pleased to learn, via your site thank you very much, that Oh Boy seems to be re-appearing on the Chronicle Books product list. I'll be looking into that as well.

Thanks for all the great info and if anyone has questions, please let us know.

Further Update:

I finally found some Oh Boy notebooks The designs are a bit gaudy for my taste (I always liked the subtle tones used in the old notebooks) and the brown lines on the paper are a bit dark (compared to the gray lines in the old notebooks), but they're still very much "Oh Boy."

A review of the Anvil notebook:

Just got a few through the mail today. Here's my thoughts:

1) Graphics a bit gaudy, to my taste.

2) Size is right, plus there's the place to stick the pen so it comes along with the pad. Two positives.

3) The light dots on the paper is an interesting effect. One could easily draw out a sketchy design of a space, or connect the dots horizontally in one's mind to write with. While not necessarily the same as lined paper, definitely an intriguing angle here.

4) Paper looks a bit shinier than the Oh Boy sheets, though there's still as thick.

Overall it's not Oh Boy, but a worthy replacement nevertheless.

You might want to check out this website:

http://www.chroniclebooks.com/site/catalog/index.php?main_page=pubs_advanced_search_result&store=books&store_type=books&search_in_description=0&keyword=oh+boy&x=0&y=0

You might also want to look up "oh boy" in Ebay. Look under the "ebay stores" section, click on "ecampus textbook superstore" or on the items themselves (look for a discription of the item after the term "Oh Boy" as there was a teeniboper/gay magazine that had that title in Britain in the late seventies/early eighties.

Looks like our favorite notebook maker is back in business, at least in name.

I have some friends here in Oly that bind their own journals and used old beautiful covers from discarded books. I am pretty sure this is how they make their living, so they are quite good at it. It is quickly becoming the new, hip way to write things down. www.exlibrisanonymous.com
