They Might Be Giants at Easy Street Records in Seattle

They Might Be Giants played a free show at Easy Street Records in Seattle the other day and I checked it out with my brother and Jon. It was for their new kids album Here Come The ABCs as well as a Here Come The ABCs DVD. They Might Be Giants also operate their own online store, so you can buy Here Come The ABCs in lovely MP3 form as well. It’s pretty impressive they retained the rights to do so since the album is published by Disney.

The show was a great deal of fun both because of the Giants usual onstage banter and the fact that the audience was littered with small children who caused all sorts of havoc including an unruly mosh pit, pulling the various instrument cables and twisting them around things and generally running with wil abondon in a music store packed with people. I suggested to one parent that if they could teach their kids to pick pockets they could really clean up. The Giants inflicted their revenge by giving the kids their first dose of tinnitus. “What’s that ringing sound? What’s ringing? I hate They Might Be Giants!”

Here’s one of the kids decked out in They Might Be Giants finery.

At one point I helped a woman in front of me hoist her daughter on her sholders. A moment later I realized the mistake of elevating a kid to the height of my nose, wrote down the problem and passed it on to my friends.

A note that reads 'I think one of the kids in front of me just pooped.'

All in all, a good time. The Giants are always good about hanging out and signing anything you bring to them.

Even after we got back from grabbing some dinner, we saw John Flansburg out front still talking to a handful of people. Thanks to TMBG for playing the show and certainly to the horde of children who made it absolutely hilarious.
