Sometimes Buses Break
Seattle buses have a pretty cool feature in that they attach with poles to cables over head that deliver electricity. This way, the buses move us around town and we don’t have to burn anything like a bunch of cavemen.
Well, it seems those polls have their limit and today I came upon one such bus whose poll had snapped off.

I haven’t a clue as to how it happened exactly as I walked by after the actual snapping, but it was a pretty impressive sight. The driver seemed a bit bewildered. I’m assuming this doesn’t really happen all that often.

yesterday must have been a bad day for the busses — yesterday morning at the corner of pine and bellevue i saw the poles come off of the wires on the top and since it was as the bus went around the corner, the driver had a bit of a difficult time getting them to line up correctly.
have you ever seen the spark? that is kinda cool, too.
Yeah, I’ve seen it detach from the cable and sparks fly. Pretty impressive and it quickly explains why I’ve never seen a squirrel or bird perched on these things.
Five bucks says that was a #7. I’ve actually been on two or three busses when the poles have detached. I’m just glad when the bus isn’t in the middle of an intersection.
