Cool Seattle Store: Schmancy

Having just moved from New York to Seattle, I’m naturally seeking out the places and things here to make the city feel like home including good pizza (Hot Mama’s), cool umbrellas (Pare), a good watering hole (still auditioning) and places for some random fun. In New York, I would stop by Kid Robot to check out some incredibly cool toys including Knockman, a personal favorite. Aided by some random walking, I ran into a Seattle store called Schmancy for the same kind of cool. Strange toys, ugly dolls, and lots of other new stuff I hadn’t run into before and it helps that the owner seems incredibly nice.

1930 2nd Ave (between Virginia & Stewart), Seattle

It’s worth checking out. I’m pretty sure I figured out about half of my holiday gifts for friends when walking through. A quick note about the name: they’re two doors down from a jewelry store called Fancy.
Update: Looks like Schmancy now has a website. Links added to the story above as seemed appropriate.

i’m new to seattle as well, having arrived in late september from florida. you may also want to check out okok on broadway in capital hill. had a little more in the way of selection than schmancy.
Hey there’s also a new store in Greenwood called Plastic Passion that just opened up on 85th St. It not far form Greenwood Ave. They have a ton of deigner toys and plushs and they have some older out of print stuff too. I’d check em out if your interested. And also hello to a fellow NY- Seattle transplant. I moved from the BX to here about 2 years ago.
Schmancy is an awesome store! I think it is better than okok…just my opinion. In any case, it is a lot of fun! I have lived in Seattle for a number of years, and it is always nice when new and unique places emerge!
I was drawn into this store by it’s colors and it’s name. Inside, I found a world that I neither expected nor had imagined existed. Some of the toys made me feel funny, while others made me feel really good and happy. Cool store!
I’m so glad someone finally mentioned Plastic Passion. This store is great! I recently picked up an original Tim Biskup print there (Monkey Bot goodness!). Also they have an online store for out of staters lookin for toys. http://www.plasticpassiontoys.com
I have to second the Plastic Passion comments. The owner is beyond nice and even went so far as to special order a few things for me. It’s so nice to go into a specialty store and not be met with an elitist attitude. Viva la Plastic Passion!
