Make Mail.app Always Send Windows Friendly Attatchments
Mail.app sends attached files in a way that is not entirely friendly to Windows users and, as a result, Windows users often see an extra file that they can do nothing with. This leads to confusion and seeding confusion via email doesn’t make you look good and doesn’t make your Mac look good. The solution? Always send Windows-friendly attachments.
Normally you have to check the Windows friendly attachment checkbox each time you attach something (an option you don’t even see if you drag and drop your attachments in like I do.) I checked Mail Preferences, but couldn’t find the option I expected to find. Over the weekend, I bumped into the solution in the drop-down menu:
Edit, Attachments, Always Send Windows Friendly Attachments

Why I did not see this myself is still a mystery!
Thank you for publishing your find. This is exactly what I was looking for.
I wonder why they don’t put this in the preferences where it should be.
been there … done that …
and my mac got frowned upon …
now i always keep it checked …
always send all os friendly attachments. period. …
thanks …
I swear I had this checked long ago, but maybe after a series of upgrades it’s gotten unchecked. I became aware of a problem when windoze users started bitching about “I can’t see the picture you sent”. For all the hype that Apple makes about being more compatible with other OS’s, it’s a wonder this isn’t the default. I mean, why is it even an option to turn off?
Thunderbird (PC) doesn’t see the attachment if “Windows Friendly” is turned off. But Can open attachment.
Outlook (“PC”)DOES see the attachment if “Windows Friendly” is turned off. However, can’t open attachment.
