Mobility Today says Prototypes are as Good as the Real Thing

The geniuses at Mobility Today (as opposed to Yesterday or Tomorrow) claim Note to Apple..Microsoft beat you this time.. in regards to Apple and Nike’s new iPod Sport Kit and then Gizmodo somehow lamely decided to echo it.
How exactly did Microsoft “beat” Apple this time? They have a prototype called the MPTrain of a similar thing in their research department whereas Apple and Nike are shipping their solution in mass quantities in July for $30.
I guess having a couple prototypes and a webpage up are the same as actually finishing and product and creating it in mass quantities. Under that same logic, Windows Vista is just simply killing Mac OS X right now.

Both systems are really cool and I am sure there will be more coming up.
The coolest thing about the MPTrain project (http://research.microsoft.com/~nuria/MPTrain/MPTrain.htm) is that it helps the user achieve a predefined exercise goal through the music. It actually uses in real-time the user’s heart-rate and acceleration to automatically select the ‘right’ music to play. No other system today provides that kind of feedback to the user. It also uses Bluetooth, which means it could potentially send the data to any Bluetooth enabled device out there. They are also quite open about it, with a paper describing the algorithms, etc…too bad it’s a research prototype…
Yeah, isn’t vista pretty much just a prototype at this point?
Actually, kr, it looks like Apple already has the patent for what you’re describing. Oh, and also, you should know that when you post, I can see that you’re posting from Microsoft.
Yes I agree with you, the whole overestimated prototype story about this new device is a bit blurred. I think real numbers will be much more soli.
