Dwell Mag and The Promise of Prefab Homes

File under everything old is new again: Combining old school J.C. Penny with new school ingenuity and modern design, Dwell Magazine is going to sell pre fabricated homes that are well designed.
The upside to this is that over time it will mean more affordable housing that is well designed. The short term downside though is that we need a lot more companies to get into this game lest neighborhoods look like xerox jobs. How embarrassing would it be to build one of these houses two doors down from your neighbor who is building the exact same house. It would be like going to a party where someone has the same outfit on for the next fifty years.

This reminds me a bit of the new Ballard library design. Just a bit.
