Secret $5 and $10 Vonage Plans
Want to pay less for your existing Vonage plan? A friend of mine called to cancel his plan since he simply doesn’t use the number often enough and they offered him the following two options.
$5 a month
0 minutes
4 cents a minute
unlimited inbound and vonage to vonage
$10 a month
100 minutes
4 cents a minute
unlimited inbound and vonage to vonage
Neither of these are advertised on their website (and the extra $5 a month in the $10 plan doesn’t seem to make much sense since the extra $5 you are paying nets you 100 minutes at 5 cents a minute). That said, if you aren’t really using your Vonage line heavily enough to justify the higher priced plan you’re at, you might as well give them a call.
Broadvoice actually offers a much better bring your own device plan that clocks in at $5.95 a month for 100 minutes outbound, unlimited inbound and extra outbound minutes are only 3.9 cents.

There’s also Skype. It’s free and the quality is great.
Oh, is that why when I CALL YOU, first it connects me to the wrong number, two other times it says “no such number exists”, and then on the fourth attempt, I finally speak to you lovely common-law wife?
Actually, that’s because Molly runs an insane number of bittorrents.
I called them to cancel and they offered me $0 for 0 plan. What kind of rate plan is that? They told me that they put my account on suspension. They were trying to keep me as their customer I guess, just in case I would go after their service again in the future.
The unlimited inbound is almost worth it. Most of my calls are inbound. However, the outbound rate sucks.
By comparison, for $1.50/mo + $1.50 911 fee, Vitelity.net offers inbound numbers. Minutes are paid at 1.1c/min or unlimited for $8/mo.
Outbound is 1.39c/min.
I unlocked my Vonage ATA and setup Vitelity on the second port. I was going to call Vonage to get the info I need for the number port, but if I can do $5 for unlimited inbound, maybe I’ll just use Vonage for incomming and Vitelity for outgoing. Thanks for the heads up.
