Three Free Apps for Every Mac
- Inquisitor: Greatly improves the Safari browser search box.
- Perian: Adds support for a long list of video types to the Quicktime video player.
- Flip4Mac: Add Windows Media support to the Quicktime video player.
I’ve been helping people set up a lot of Christmas macs over the last few weeks, and have put these three programs on every single one of them.

Yes indeed, Flip4Mac, along with Perian are essentials. I have not used Inquisitor yet, but will give it a try. I also ran across another thing by the F4M people called Drive In. Works pretty well for me so far.
As a point for reference, I’ve found iusethis.com for a source of popular apps and such. On the top of my list would be the Unsanity products HERE, but be sure to get the most current versions. If you upgrade to Leopard with an older app enhancer, you will get the blue screen of death after you install it.
