Obvious Diversion

A number of people seem to have lost the ability to view Photos and Music on their Macs with their Tivo due to a bug. The Tivo sees the network, can get schedule updates, but doesn’t seem to be able to use the Home Media option with Macs on the network. I have been struggling with this same problem with both my Tivo and my parent’s Tivo since the 7.1 upgrade, but the following fixed it.

The Fix

1. Open System Preferences
2. Choose Sharing
3. Change the Computer Name input to a shorter string (example: Christian’s Computer)
4. Click on the Edit button just below and change it to something shorter. (example: Christians-Computer.local)
5. Close the Sharing window
6. Restart your Tivo

I finally tracked down the answer to the Home Media bug over in the Tivo forums. Thanks to Bob Edelman for his assistance. I wasted more time than I’d like to admit trying to figure this one out, but that did the trick. I hope it works well for others and hopefully Tivo will fix this bug in an update soon.
