Is Tivo Abandoning the Mac?

David Courtney, Executive Vice President and Coordinator of Worldwide Operations for Tivo, in an article about Tivo in the Daily Pennsylvanian had some startling things to say about Tivo and it’s relationship with the Mac. (Scroll to the bottom of the linked article to see the Apple specific statements.)
However, the overlap of users of Apple and TiVo has not been enough to strike any chemistry between the companies.
“We haven’t committed to any plans [for integration] to it because of the cost,” Courtney said.
He added that being able to watch media on Apple computers using TiVo seems unlikely “unless we find a way to record it under the current platform, and I don’t think that will happen in the next few years.”
Does this mean no TivoToGo for the Mac? Will the Tivo Desktop for the Mac see any updates at all? I’m seriously hoping this was a misstatement or that Apple is going to roll out it’s own DVR solution. Perhaps some developer will come up with a Mac application based on Tivo’s SDK.

We are currently working on ways to enable playback on Apple Macintosh computers. We will let our customers know in our newsletter as soon as this feature is available.
