Xara Will Be the Open Source Illustrator, Looking for Experienced Mac and Linux Developers

Xara is a little known but absolutely incredible graphic design application. If you’re on Windows and you’re looking for a full featured and unquestionably fast graphics program at a great price, Xara is it. For $79, you will not find a better piece of graphics software.
The great news, and I mean really really great news, is that Xara is now open source and is actively pursuing ports of it’s program to Mac and Linux. If you are a Mac or Linux developer and want to bring a truly fantastic program to your platform, get over there and pitch in.
Think of it this way. If Gimp is the open source Photoshop, Xara is will be the open source Illustrator.
I moved to a 15″ Powerbook a couple years ago and absolutely love it, but the one thing I’ve missed badly is Xara. It’s so easy to use and so natural that I could crunch out designs in no time at all. I can’t wait to see it running on my mac.

This is the best news I’ve heard all year! Xara is one of the best graphic design applications out there.
Now if only we could get Ilium Software to release ListPro for the Mac…
