Will Xbox 2 Nickel & Dime You to Death?

According to Reuters, Xbox 2/360/Next is going to feature microtransactions for buying additions to a game whether it be a new level or virtual stuff for your character or who knows what else. My only reaction is do I really want to be nickel and dimed for a game I’ve already spent $50 for? I realize Microsoft and the game publishers are just trying to make more money, but I’m just trying to play a game.

Of course, this is assuming that the games will still be selling at the $50 price point, which there have been reports indicating that EA might charge as much as $70 (surprise, surprise!). I think game prices should drop by about fifteen bucks, then supplemented by the “microtransactions” afterwards. That way, if you buy a game and play it off and on, you don’t feel ripped off, but if others are into it hardcore, they can add to their experience for a small fee.
Supah!
